Reformer Classes

The Pilates Studio at New Motion is committed to high-quality movement and the Pilates principles of working with control, concentration, centering, precision, breath, and flow of exercises. Our instructors use the following criteria to define working levels:

Foundations (this is a beginners class)

Are you brand new to the Allegro Reformer? Has it been a year since taking Pilates? Do you have a new injury/physical challenge that needs attention? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then this class is for you! In the Introductory Class, you will learn to:

Stabilize your powerhouse
Coordinate breath with movement
Understand the concept of pelvic positioning
Lift and lengthen the spine
Build a vocabulary of anatomical terms and kinesthetic awareness

Fundamentals of Pilates

Have you taken the Introductory Series? Do you currently take private sessions? Do you have a comprehensive understanding of Pilates concepts and exercises? Do you know how to modify exercises for your own body? If you answered yes to any question above, this class is for you! In the Fundamentals of Pilates Class, you will be expected to:

Maintain a stable pelvic position during open chain, closed chain, or semi-closed chain exercises
Stabilize shoulders during upper body movement
Set up the equipment, and know your springs
Move in flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation

Intermediate Pilates

Can you flow through a workout with control? Do you know how to work harder within any exercise? Can you activate muscles on cue? If you answered yes to any question above, then this class is for you! In the Intermediate Pilates Class, you will be expected to:

Have a working knowledge of fundamental exercise order, equipment and spring set-up, and transitions
Navigate safely with fewer points of contact
Learn more complex rotational and side-bending exercises
Adjust quickly to variations or additions as cued by the instructor

Advanced Pilates

Our advanced classes builds on the intermediate level - working faster through your transitions with more challenging moves. Requires knowledge of the exercises, great form and excellent balance. Instructor approval is needed for this class.
